Tuesday, May 13:
Our next Grindhouse Film Festival event at the New Beverly Cinema is coming up on Tuesday, May 13th, and is not to be missed. We'll be presenting an absolute classic from director Herschell Gordon Lewis and producer David F. Friedman, TWO THOUSAND MANIACS! This 1964 follow-up to their groundbreaking gore sickie BLOOD FEAST is the best of Lewis' films and his personal favorite, and remains an over-the-top crowd pleaser forty four years (!!!!) after it's initial release.
We'll also be screening the rarely seen TENDER FLESH (aka WELCOME TO ARROW BEACH), directed by actor Laurence Harvey (star of such films as THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE and ROOM AT THE TOP and father of bounty hunter Domino Harvey) and completed from his death bed as he was dying of stomach cancer. The great cast in this bizarro cannibal film includes Laurence Harvey along with Meg Foster, Joanna Pettet, Stuart Whitman and John Ireland. Don't miss this double-feature!
As always, we'll also have a reel of great exploitation trailers along with our free raffle.
All seats to this show are $8, cash only.
The New Beverly Cinema celebrates its 30th anniversary all month long in May!
This May 5th will mark the start of the New Beverly Cinema's 30th year in business! To celebrate this occasion, our May 2008 calendar will be a show-for-show replication of our May 1978 debut calendar. The only deviations from May 1978 will be the Grindhouse Film Festival shows, the midnight shows, and a substitute for LOGAN'S RUN on May 4-6 (no studio prints of that title exist at the moment). In keeping with the spirit of the 30th anniversary, all of these shows will be from 1978 or earlier.
RESERVOIR DOGS, one of the New Beverly's most successful midnight shows, and one of the longest running (every Saturday at midnight for most of the early to mid 90s), will also return to the New Beverly Fridays at midnight starting May 9!
The May 2008 calendar is lovingly dedicated to my dad Sherman, who was the main driving force behind the New Beverly from its founding in '78 until his sudden and untimely passing this past July. The New Beverly would have never made it this far without him, and we'll never forget him.

The New Beverly is shocked and saddened by the untimely passing of Robert Nudelman. Robert was a customer of the New Beverly from day 1 in 1978, and a wonderful friend. He will be sorely missed both on a personal level and for all that he accomplished in his 30 years as a preservationist to save so many Hollywood landmarks. His death leaves a true void on many levels, and it's hard to fathom we'll never see him walk through the New Beverly's front door again.
